The Sound of Picture Books is a multi-arts performance initiative created by internationally renowned artist/author/composer Matt Ottley, showcasing creativity and creative approaches to storytelling.
It is through innovative creative engagement that we change as people, causing us to think and reflect, inspiring empathy.
Each live performance involves a musical ensemble performing Matt Ottley’s original music for a particular book, with a narrator accompanying an animated video of the artworks, followed by multiple demonstrations by Matt of how he turns visual art into written music, revealing his truly intermodal approach to creativity.
What does a picture sound like? What does a melody look like?
It is not simply the coupling of music to a picture book – the music is literally created from the images and the words. Matt takes the audience on a journey of creativity, turning lines and shapes in images into music composed live on stage.
